I still turn wrenches, which is exactly the problem — the shop needs an owner who runs it, not one who's under a car all day. My techs are the best in the area and they know it; whoever buys this keeps them by paying them right and staying out of their way. I'll stay a few months to hand over the fleet accounts.

Dre W., owner

About the business

Independent general-repair shop with six bays, four ASE-certified techs, and a service writer who runs the front. Fleet accounts with two local businesses smooth out the retail swings. Booked out one to two weeks year-round.

What customers know us for

Honest estimates and a two-week wait. People wait because we do not sell them work they do not need, and they tell their neighbors.

The crew

Six techs, one service writer, and my wife does the books two days a week. The two senior techs are ASE master certified and have been here since year two.

Why now

My back. Fifteen years under cars and I am done, and I would rather sell it working than run it into the ground.

How much runs without the owner

I still write half the estimates and I am the one customers ask for. The service writer could take that over with six months and a raise.

Where the work comes from

Repeat and referral, almost entirely. We have about four thousand customer records and a fleet account with a local plumbing company that keeps two bays busy.

Room to grow

Saturdays. We close on weekends because I wanted the time. A second shift or a Saturday crew would add real revenue without another bay.

Who Dre would hand it to

Someone who knows cars or will hire someone who does. The techs will not respect a manager who cannot read a scan tool, and the customers will not either.

Terms Dre is open to

✓ Would consider carrying a noteThe buyer pays part of the price over time out of the business's earnings. Common at this size — and staying tied to the buyer's success can be a feature for a legacy-minded handoff.
✓ Would consider an earnoutPart of the price depends on how the business performs after the handoff.
